The St. Louis Browns nipped the New York Yankees 5 to 4 at Sportsman's Park in
a hard fought contest.

St. Louis took the lead for good in the bottom of the 4th inning scoring 2
runs on 3 base hits. After an out was recorded, George Sisler jump-started
the rally as he stroked a single. Ken Williams came next and he cracked a
two-run shot. One out later, Hank Severeid then doubled. New York had a
chance in the 9th but they came up short.

The victory was credited to Urban Shocker(6-9) who went 8 and 2/3 innings,
allowing 4 runs. Hub Pruett was credited with his 3rd save. Carl Mays(7-3)
was hit with the loss.

'I always am most impressed when a pitcher finds a way to win even without his
best stuff,' Lee Fohl said after the game. 'Shocker did not have command of
his pitches most of the afternoon, but he proved he really knew how to
pitch!'
